LPG Conversion
1963
Harold Bate preferred to use the simple pop eye pipe system to deliver the gas (see below),
this is a copper tube that is inserted into the air flow of the
carburettor and cut off at a 45
degree angle to achieve a draw.
As years went on a flap device was added to achieve maximum delivery of fuel when on the move,
but this was constantly trimmed by the driver via a chock mechanism, which was mounted on the dash.
This meant that the driver was retuning the car as he accelerated and decelerated (not a good idea).
At Gas Power UK Ltd we have assembled Harold Bate's LPG / petrol conversion system, and can see no reason
why it would not work, on a carburetted engine that was fitted with a petrol shut off.
These drawings and instructions have a patent on them so they can only be used as Historical reference.

This car conversion would not meet health and safety regulations, LPGA codes of practice nor constructions and use regulations of today, but they do open your eye, to the incredibly talented mind, of Harold bate, and how simple objects can be altered / adapted to create a LPG/ petrol conversion.Historical Documents
